Power electronics play an important role for electromobility as they take over the efficient transmission of power from the battery to the motor.

Silicon carbide as a new semiconductor base material enables, among other things, lower switching losses and higher switching frequencies to make more efficient solutions than silicon: For the overall system, however, it is important to improve the interfaces and the internal structure of the power electronics so that leakage inductances are minimized.

In an article in the April edition of “ATZ Elektronik” Tobias Keller and Dr. Daniel Schneider from ABB Semiconductors explains the influence of leakage inductance and explains how this can be minimized with the new ABB RoadPak when installing drive inverters for electric vehicles.

The article can be read directly in the ABB online library or on ATZelectronics.
